On Valentines day I couldn't think of a better car to draw then a Vw Beetle, but I certainly thought the car could use a little tweaking. I own a 72, and while I love it- I can't help but re imagine it. So the roof is chopped, and the wind screen tilted back a little- not a major re imagine, but enough to give the car a little motion without being too radical. As with always, this was done completely freehand using Fine & Ultra Fine Sharpies- no rulers were used.
was about to comment that you had made the car too long XD
The background looks really good. The alternating thickness of lines works well - instead of having a mass jumble of stuff, you have a randomized sense of in and out. very nice
also I love the breaks in the lines. gives it motion.
A little extra length helps things like their movin'- but actually, this car's wheel base was drawn to spec- I just re-arranged the roof line a bit. I own a 72 beetle and have some ideas for makin it a bit sleeker. The more versions of the pieces I do, the more I concentrate on the background lines, fine lines, and details- so hopefully with time they will get better. I did a stylized rendering of a classic Ferrari over the weekend- gonna get it scanned tomorrow then posted!
That's a way cool piece of work!
