Sharpie Art on Canvas (preview) by PinstripeChris Sharpie Art on Canvas (preview) by PinstripeChris
I'm actually finished with this piece, but I love the way this picture came out so I wanted to share it. I'm spending more time this past week working on canvas- which as far as drawing with sharpies goes, is pretty challenging. But I like the challenge, and I really like the presentation of a canvas piece. I particularly like that I can wrap the design around the edges :)

Was there an inspiration photo or art? Or just an image in your head? Also, did you use pencil to sketch it out first or did you draw freehand?

I love your work. I do this as well. Just curious, do you use the sharpie markers or pens?

Thank you very much- I use the Markers pretty much all around and pens only sometimes where the marker is to fat to reach, or if I want to make a nice sharp pint at the end of something

Hey. I love your work. Im doing something like that on the canvas with the paint and that takes really long. And now i want to start doing on the walls so they look like a big painting on the wall.

Regular ole Sharpies is what I use, and for the lines I make them all in 1 stroke so they dont have any seams and are consistent

Thank you- I've actually heard that before :) I've never seen Plynesian artwork, but there have been plenty of civilizations in years past that did similar style designs- I guess I'm just digging up old memories from History Class :)

Amazing. I'm not usually a person to buy things to put on my walls, but this would be one if I saw in the store, I'd make sure to purchase it for my living room.

wow, the patterns are gorgeous!

how do artists get such a solid black from sharpies? Does the canvas help to that?

Thank you! The canvas doesn't really help with the opacity of the marker- the markers themselves do. Sharpies can be used in a multitude of ways and can be super opaque. It's ink so it's very potent

Kind of a rough surface canvas is to work on in regards to Sharpie, pretty neat work you've done considering! Can't make a pencil cooperate well with me when using canvas (then again I don't think they're meant for each other, or if it was real canvas :p).

Canvas is definitely challenging, but not impossible. There are different types of canvas, but most of them will have some kind of 'tooth' you'll have to work with, but it's Canvas :)

Amazing, and i can see that it would very kinda difficult with the textured canvas to get those nice clean lines but you did an excellent job!

Thank you very much! Yes, the canvas is a lil trickier, but all in all I think it makes for a more finished piece when completed

do u ever sketch something with pencil lightly then trace it or do u just follow your instincts and sort of improvise?

Hahaha fuuuuuumes. I've found that an art teacher wants to show you their way- and thats fine because thats what they grade you on- but also somewhat limiting to the possibilities. Fun is important and should happen constantly :)
