I had a little free time today so I put together this quick experimental piece. I started out with a basic 18"x12" frame, and took it down to just the glass. I love drawing on glass since it's the closest to a car's surface and is easily the most challenging since its the least forgiving. So I Sharpied a simple design in from the bottom corner out- I did end up getting some of the line clearances a bit too tight/fine, so they appear solid black in the photo, but they're not totally solid. Next I cut a piece of illustration board the same size as the glass and sprayed it with a nice bright green, followed by splashing in some red orange and white in from the opposing corner. Lastly I put the pieces together in the frame- so the sharpie art sits over top the acrylic piece. The art on the glass itself is kinda neat and could be used in a shadow box, but I wanted to jazz it up a bit and see what happened. I like the idea that a couple ideas/mediums can be put together in this manor. I also like that the sharpie casts a little shadow if itself onto the acrylic under piece. It's just a test piece, but it'll still look neat on the wall I at least have a better idea of how to improve on the next one!
you see alot of layered things that look really cool but then there's a bunch of layered stuff that looks really F'ed up because there's too much going on
The drawn part is on the outside of the glass, yes. I use Industrial Strength Sharpies for pretty much everything- its still generally the same exact marker with ink in it, just the chemical make up is different
